Why did you want to be a 12?
I wanted to be a Tempe 12 because it would be an honor to represent Arizona State’s student body which is ranked the best looking in the nation. I am constantly dedicated to fitness with a passion and wanted to see how far I could push myself and then watch how far I could go with my results. When I was deciding on which schools to attend for college, I would google things that those schools were known for and I saw Tempe 12 for ASU. Tempe 12 was one of the things that leered me in and made me want to be a part of it. My intentions were right for the position of one of the 12s and to represent myself in sexy, confident, and composed way.
What do you want to be when you grow up/ how will being a 12 help?
I’m trying to hold on to my college years as much as possible, but my plans for after graudation are to pursue a career in either fitness or public relations. My goal are to inspire others and to lift them up with encouraging messages for every occassion, whether it be in the gym, personal life, or work field. Tempe 12 could definitely help me acomplish that goal to demonstrate how far I have come, and it is only just the beginning. The relations that I build here with the girls and with the marketing team is a rare experience to come across that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Tell us something about you that people wouldn’t expect from just looking at you
Just by looks, I don’t think people could tell how loud of a person I am. I’m not shy, not in any way. My laugh can be heard anywhere and has a super distinct sound to it which I can’t help. I’m naturally a ball of energy that I hope is contagious to others. My voice itself is naturally strong especially for my small size. If you just looked at me you would probably think I was mousy or timid, but really it is quite the opposite.
Favorite place on campus?
My favorite place is the SDFC. I’m not just saying that because I am a Tempe 12 and encourage fitness, it’s true. I’m there so often especially early mornings that I see the same workers everyday and they look at me like “again?!” It’s just like my second home here on campus where my stress disolves and my motivation builds up.
What’s your major and how did you decided on that?
My current major is communications as broad as that sounds. Originally I wanted to do broadcast journalism since that is my forte, but I did not want to live in the downtown campus and be seperated from all the fun going on in Tempe. So I switched to communications and told myself it would be just for my freshman year, but I loved it so much that I’m sticking to it for another semester. I’m a people person and have a passion for relational work, so being a com major was the best for me.
Best trip you have ever taken?
That has to be the hardest question to answer because I love all the places I’ve traveled to for different reasons. At top of the list, I would have to say that Panama was my favorite trip because I got to see my grandparents from there. It’s neat to see the places that are part of your ethnicity, you feel a bit of your belonging and know where you and your family come from. Panama was the greenest place I have ever seen, especially since I have lived in the desert my whole life. Even the city was still so jungle like that I was so amazed. It’s a beautiful country, all of central america is. Seeing peacocks on the grass right next to the beach is a rare thing, and it’s little memories like those that made it the best trip.
How have things changed since you’ve become a 12?
I’ve been getting a lot of congratulations from everyone, even people I don’t really know. I’m sure some were shocked because even I’m amazed that I got to be one of the gorgeous 12. Representing the best looking university is an understatement for these girls because they are absolutely beautiful. If ya’ll look at the calendar once it comes out, I promise that these girls are even better in person. Becoming a 12 showed me how much my friends support me and show me off, I love it. My confidence is over the roof, not it a conceited way but more as a way that I know I can do anything I set my mind to. It sounds cheesy, but I worked for everything I have and I am encouraged to go further. I still can’t believe I made the twelve.
Favorite college memory?
My favorite college memories are often ones where I make fool out of myself and then laugh about it later. I’m such a hot mess that there are plenty of them. One of them was the day of my sorority initiation that I had to attend early. I live in San Pablo which is directly next to the stadium and I had to meet up with my sisters in Adelphi Commons which is ALL the way on the opposite end of campus. That morning some marathon was going on that didn’t allow me to drive in that direction and made me go farther away from Adelphi. I then had no choice but to park super far away and run back. I find myself dressed nicely in all white with Burberry flats running against the current of a thick swarming crowd of runners trying to avoid being knocked over. In the end I made it in time, just sweating and huffing and puffing ready to finally become an active member.
What do you look for in a guy?
I feel so cliche when I say what I want in a guy. He doesn’t need to be dark but he does need to be tall and handsome. A nice smile is what really sells me along with some muscles. I can’t go for a guy who can’t keep up with me in the gym, that’s an absolute no. But really, they gotta lift.
Tell us about your best and worst date?
My best date was probably the day after this past Valentine’s day. Both of our schedules were so conflicting that we didn’t have time for a sit down fancy meal so I suggested Buffalo Wild Wings which is BOMB. I don’t need a four-course meal to be wined and dined, chips and queso along with wings are just fine. Of course I got the cutest gifts, so I was a very happy girl that day.
My worst date was with a guy that ended up having to bring his friends along and then ordered a kids meal so then I felt obligated to order a kids meal. I was so hungry and felt awkward and the night ended with a very awkward kiss. I immediately friend zoned him.
Why did you decided on asu?
Arizona State is sucha gorgeous campus filled with gorgeous people. I fell in love with it on just my first campus visit. I didn’t really want to go where the majority of my high school classmates were going and yet still be fairly close to home which made it perfect to attend here.
Tell us about where you grew up
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas which is at the very point of the state that borders with Mexico and New Mexico. And when I say next to them, I mean directly on edge with them where I could see Mexico every single day and could even walk to New Mexico from my house. That side of Texas is similar to here with the dry extreme heat and beautiful sunsets. I love where I grew up since it was a big enough place where there was always something to do but small enough that traveling anywhere was really exciting. My home city is ranked the happiest in the nation so that’s where I get my cheerfulness.
Whats one item you can’t live without and why?
Since moving here, I can’t live without my sun card. I can’t go anywhere without that darn thing. I need it to eat, get into the gym, get into my dorm, get into adelphi, pay for everything, access to printing. I’m such a freshman, I know.
