For Kyra Transtrum , the 12 represent a group of well-rounded college girls; someone who has more than just looks! She loves the diversity of the group and how each girl is unique. On top of that, she think’s its great that each girl has a high standard both in academic and in all their activit
Why did you want to be a 12 girl?
I think the 12 are a great example of a well-rounded college woman: someone who has more to them than just looks! All of the girls have at least above a 3.0 GPA and all of them have such great personalities and different interests/talents.
What do you want to be when you grow up/ How will being a 12 help?
I’m not sure what I want to be yet; I’m still figuring that out along the way. I’d love to work in sports or maybe broadcasting though! I think being a 12 is a great way to make connections with different people and find out more about different occupations.
Tell us something about you that people wouldn’t expect from just looking at you?
I’m actually a huge goofball, always smiling and laughing! Also, I’m a huge sports fan and I think that usually surprises people.
Favorite place on campus?
My favorite spot on campus would have to be Sun Devil Stadium, I think it’s so cool how it’s built into the side of the mountain. I also love palm walk though, there aren’t palm trees where I’m from so it always seems so beautiful and different to me!
What’s your major and how did you decide on that?
I’m a marketing major! I really am not sure what I want to do yet, but I know I want to work with people and I think having a business degree is something you can use in almost any industry.
Best trip you have ever taken?
By far the best trip I’ve taken was to Maui, Hawaii. It’s one of my favorite places in the whole world. It’s so breathtaking there, I don’t think I would ever get used to how pretty the landscape is. It was with my family and nothing is better than family time.
How have things changed since you’ve become a 12?
I’ve had a lot of opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise, which has been really great. I’ve also gotten my ass kicked into shape I don’t think I’ve ever been in this great of shape.
Favorite college memory?
ASU has been an incredible experience with tons of ups and downs, but a cool moment was when I was laying out at the pool before going home for Christmas. You definitely can’t do that in Idaho in the winter unless you want frostbite!
What do you look for in a guy?
Someone who genuinely cares about me. It takes a lot for me to like someone so it makes a big difference when I know that they’re really there for me.
Tell us about your best and worst date?
My best date was when in high school when my boyfriend took me up to the foothills overlooking the city to officially ask me to be his girlfriend. It was very special and something I won’t ever forget. My worst date was probably my junior year homecoming, which was pretty much a disaster!
Why did you decide on ASU?
My mom travels to Arizona for work sometimes, so she encouraged me to apply to school here and I got a great scholarship! It’s pretty hard to turn down free school.
Tell us about where you grew up?
I grew up in a beautiful town in Idaho. Life there is a lot different than here. As kids it was safe to run around town without adults so we had quite a bit of freedom. My friends and I walked or biked everywhere and practically just lived outside. I’d always go up to my cabin with friends and family and we’d spend our days boating and wakeboarding and our nights setting off fireworks and roasting marshmallows! Things moved a lot more slowly and people really seem to enjoy life there. I couldn’t have asked for a better childhood or a better place to come from. It will always be my home.
What’s one item you can’t live without and why?
I have a few.. the first is chapstick! It drives me crazy when I don’t have it. Another is music/headphones. I’m always listening to something, and if I don’t have it, then I start singing… and nobody wants to hear that!
ies outside of school.
